wealth by osmosis

It has been said that one’s income is in proportion to the average income of one’s six closest friends. Well, if you stop to think about it, you’ll realise that birds of a feather flock together. We go to the same clubs or schools or associations as the people with whom we share things in common. We think along similar lines, we are influenced by each other, we like similar things, people and places. In other words, we feel comfortable with people who are in a similar vibrational frequency band to us.

So why is it that one’s income is in proportion to the average income of one’s six closest friends? That’s because we create results according to how we think and feel, and how we think and feel determines our vibrational frequency. So it stands to reason that if you consciously choose the people with whom you spend most of your time, you will, by osmosis, become more like them.

That’s not to say that you should ditch your existing friends! The idea here is that you also choose to spend time with other people whom you admire. This could be on a personal basis, or through immersing yourself in books about them, listening to audios tapes and CDs, or attending lectures or seminars, for example.

But don’t just start and stop at the money piece. Think about wealth in the wider sense of the word. Put aside thoughts about money for the moment. What would truly make your life rich? What kind of experiences would you have? What kind of experiences do you want more of? How do you want to feel?

Wealth is first and foremost about attitude. It’s about outlook... perspective... experiences... personal strengths and talents... gratitude... enjoyment. It’s about how you are feeling about you and your life. It’s about your spirit... and your wealth, including material wealth, flows from there.

There was a time in the past when I had to monitor my cashflow to the point of delaying my purchase of a bottle of shampoo for a week. But I still felt rich because I was happy. Then there have been other times when I had a lot of money... and I would shop, to numb the pain of the other aspects of my life. Material wealth without the spiritual wealth cannot bring the same joy and quality to life than having the spiritual wealth in the first place.

So, as an example, do you let go of the fact that someone snapped at you this morning, or do you carry it with you the rest of the day or week? Who knows what is going on for that person? Do you? Which of your responses creates a richer experience for you?

As always, you get to pick.

Beginning today, stop a little to smell the roses. Put the money on the backseat for a bit, and enjoy your today’s experiences for the richness and wealth that they can bring into your life. Immerse yourself. Bathe yourself in a wealth of feeling good. Let it ooze into your pores, and create some wealth by osmosis.

In fact, just "be" a lot more.

Action Points

Immerse yourself in all that feels good! Act as if, or pretend that all your problems and challenges have been fully taken care of, and be sure to feel that way too. Then see what difference this makes (and do write and let me know!).

Quote

"To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never, in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony." - William Henry Channing

"Poor is the man who does not know his own intrinsic worth and tends to measure everything by relative value. A man of financial wealth who values himself by his financial net worth is poorer than a poor man who values himself by his intrinsic self worth." - Sidney Madwed
