Why Are There Not More Women Who Make it to the Top? by Veronica Lim

The “Women Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling” discussion held in June 2004 promised to be an inspiring evening of ideas and discussion. It was. There was plenty of enthusiasm for putting quotas in place for women in leadership positions, and training executive management on how better to appreciate the diversity of women and how to promote them.

Not only is it important that women move confidently into leadership, it is also imperative that organisations help women to do this. The report on The Bottom Line: Connecting Corporate Performance and Gender Diversity published by Catalyst in January 2004 states, “Companies with a higher representation of women in senior management positions financially outperform companies with proportionally fewer women at the top.”
